The best dirty dumplings in Melbourne..

I love love love love LOVE dirty dumplings!  The latest hot spot in Glen Waverley is better than ever.  It’s called FIRST CHOICE DUMPLING BAR and it’s in the exact same location as where JG Dumpling House used to reside.  The only difference is that the super oily carpet has been changed to floating floorboards and the dumplings are much better as it’s under new management and there are literally new Chinese on the block 😉

The usual #12 – Fried pork dumpling (15 pieces) for $9 is better than before…with the satisfying crusty crunch at the bottom of all 15 dumplings on every plate.  You get the feeling that the wok is only ever rinsed, not scrubbed – just as it should be – so that like a master stock, the delicious flavours and aromas from each batch are retained within the nooks and crannies of the glorious wok which either makes or breaks an establishment such as this…

The dumpling bar is also named after these delicious morsels… #2 Fried pork mini bun (8 pieces) for $10 and for good reason because they are incredible…The bottoms are crispy like the aforementioned dumplings but you have to be careful when eating these because inside is a delicious soupy mixture like that in traditional xiao long bao!  Before visiting this hawker store, I’d never ever eaten dumplings so delightful before… so make sure you order them because they are BETTER than xiao long bao and, dare-I-say-it, better than the #12 fried pork dumplings!

The same rule about not eating seafood applies here.  We made the mistake of ordering seafood dumplings one day and Eric and I both ended up with nasty bouts of food poisoning so steer clear of anything with seafood and you’ll be fine.  The xiao long baos (#11 – Steamed Shanghai pork mini bun (9 pieces)) are great as well so as long as you can eat pork.. you’ll fall in love with First Choice Dumpling Bar just as I have 🙂

  1. Now, I have never had or seen these fried pork mini buns. Sounds delicious! Every nationality has some sort of a dumpling. You should go on a dumpling hunt….haha.
