Lunch at Bistro Guillaume

It’s still Autumn in Melbourne at the moment but the weather put on a pretty poor show today!  We have had pouring rain all day, ridiculous traffic as a result, and the highest temp we reached today was 15.1C.  However, despite working full time, I have Tuesdays off and it happened to coincide with one of Eric’s days off – so we ignored the weather and carried on.

Our morning started off with Ethan’s regular swimming lesson and proceeded on to a three course lunch at Bistro Guillaume in Crown Casino.  We love Guillaume Brahimi’s restaurant which offers a great value lunch between Monday to Saturday (12-6pm) – 2 courses for $45 and 3 courses for $55!

This is what we feasted on…

ImageSteak tartare with pommes gaufrettes – beef tataki & sashimi were what I missed most whilst pregnant so ever since, I have ordered raw beef & fish as often as humanly possible…!  The steak tartare was perfectly textured and embodied salty, sweet, and tangy.  The pommes gaufrettes crumbled up with it added a fabulous crunch!

ImageIn-house smoked salmon with dill cream & toasted brioche – one of our favourite entrees… every restaurant should serve their smoked salmon on fresh brioche!

For mains, we usually order the Berkshire pork belly, the duck confit or the steak frites but on this cold & gloomy day, we decided to mix it up a little..

ImageJohn Dory with beurre noisette, capers & lemon – we had already started on our mains before we remembered I was maybe going to start blogging again..!  This was an absolutely divine dish & Ethan loved it..

ImageHalf a roasted chicken with Paris mash and chicken jus – Eric got stuck into this before we had a chance to take a pic.  This was roast chicken done professionally.  The skin was amazing and the chicken was succulent.  The jus was perfect and the mash was like silk.  Ethan is an avid chicken fan and chowed down on it like a miniature gourmand 😉

When we got to the restaurant, Eric expressed his concern that we had left Ethan’s stacking & nesting cups at home (the only toy that keeps him occupied for hours..)!  Fortunately though, kids are easily amused so I pulled out my phone which he has already injured quite brutally (there is a crack down the back after he threw it on our wooden floor at home and the microphone no longer works because when he was younger he used to put everything in his mouth), my Panisonicam, & a handful of Dr Seuss flip the flap books which amused him for the majority of the meal…Image

For dessert, we tried the…ImagePassionfruit creme brulee – very tart but very creamy and delicious all the same.  Ethan took delight in the shortbread triangles which he initially thought were bread sticks.

ImageProfiteroles with vanilla bean ice cream and warm chocolate sauce – how decadent!!  The chocolate sauce was, for some unknown reason, slightly sour but otherwise was a lovely dessert to end with.

And so we left, fully content, to pop by the American chain – Costco..Imagewhere Ethan went face to face with an enormous bear!!
