Yesterday, we went to Sapa Hills II for lunch. It’s in our local kampong and to be honest, we only went there because our usual Hawthorn pho haunt, Viet Star, is closed on Sundays. But my oh my – it was really quite fabulous.
For starters – it had an ambience! It was clean, spacious and very modern – and the waiters were very polite and the orders were very punctual. It was also very family friendly with every third table accessorised with a tot under the age of 3!
Prices were comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants but serving sizes were smaller.
Here’s what we had…
I’m not huge on spring rolls – but kids are – so we ordered these for Lil’ E. What I liked about them was that they were actually really tasty and by wrapping them up in the iceberg lettuce, it added a unique fresh take to the usual greasy suspect…
This was really quite good! Different to my mum’s phenomenal Malaysian recipe but really nice none-the-less. You could really taste the typical Vietnamese sweet/sour mix coming through.. The meat was a tad tough but I loved the over-the-top caramelisation that each skewer possessed.
Lil’ E & I loved the crunch of the egg noodles!! The vegetables were all fried to perfection. The seafood was super fresh & very tender BUT there wasn’t very much of it! Having said that – I’m good with small portions especially if they’re otherwise flawless – because I would much rather sample more dishes whilst out anyway!! 😀
Despite loading this little number up with as much bean sprouts, mint, lemon juice & chilli as I could, the broth was still lacking in complexity. However, it seemed only a small matter in the setting of a beautiful restaurant with spacious seating, good ventilation & fantastic company 🙂
