The Proud Peacock in Mount Waverley – an interesting Asian find…

I’m not sure how to describe The Proud Peacock, situated within the Pinewood Shopping precinct in Mount Waverley.  It’s kind of your typical hawker store which is predominantly Vietnamese – but with a bit of Thai / Cantonese / Malaysian food thrown in for good measure.  And it’s kind of a religious sanctuary where you can tell the owners are Christian with a little bit of a Lululemon vibe with motivational quotes written over their counter..!!  What I can say is that even though the plastic drink ware was filthy and even though you can get better tasting food at other hawker food establishments – our family still had a bloody good time there and none of us suffered from food poisoning which is always good in my books..

An interesting quirk about The Proud Peacock is that the drinks are free – and communal!  There are essentially bottles of soft drink and juice passed around, intended for sharing.  There is also the optional Chinese tea which is always great when requiring assistance in digesting the oilier dishes..

Here’s what we ordered...

spring rollsVietnamese spring rolls which our toddler son enjoyed.

pad thaiPad Thai – which was really quite good.

beef phoVietnamese beef pho – delicious!

char kway teowChar kway teow – this looked different but essentially tasted the same as their pad thai, interestingly..

combination crispy egg noodlesCombination crispy egg noodles – so-so, but then again I tend to be a connoisseur on these noodles because I typically order them EVERYWHERE!

complimentary fruit & cheesecakeOur complimentary fruit & sweet platter which was a nice touch seeing a lot of Asian restaurants don’t bother anymore.  The mini cheesecakes were actually really good.  Lil’ E was also given a complimentary raspberry popsicle – which definitely kept him awake till later than usual!!  And on our way out the door, the waitress-in-charge ran out after us and gave Lil’ E a take home bag with a doughnut and a mini cheesecake in it as well as two children’s books.  I think Lil’ E still loves her to this day… xx
