Vietnamese Street Cuisine Pho Viet in Hawthorn – incredible food at bargain prices

pho vietMove over Viet Star & Sapa Hills II – I’ve got a new favourite Vietnamese restaurant in my neighbourhood and it’s called PHO VIET.

Pho Viet recently started opening for dinner and since then we have dined there several times and even taken advantage of their free home delivery service.  I personally think the boom in amazing affordable food around Hawthorn has been due to Swinburne University and other such establishments but regardless of what it’s due to.. my husband and I are loving it.

The restaurant is run by the kindest and loveliest of people.  The owner is very obliging and happily accommodates children and strollers alike.  Pretty much everyone that goes there is a regular with very few having to order from the menu.

Here are the dishes we keep ordering time and time again…

Traditional Vietnamese spring rolls ($7)spring rollsDon’t laugh.  These are for our son who literally inhales all six in one breath.

Crispy prawn pancake ($8)crispy prawn pancakeThis dish is incredibly tasty – and crispy as stated.  We love it because it’s so flavoursome and filled with love.

Prawn rice paper rolls ($8)prawn rice paper rollsAbsolutely beautiful specimens filled with super fresh prawns and loads of fresh salad alongside the usual vermicelli rice noodles.

Char-grilled chicken rice paper rolls ($7)chicken rice paper rollsThese are my husband’s favourite.  The delicious skin on the chicken makes these rice paper rolls super special.

Grilled pork chop with lemongrass on rice ($8.50)grilled pork chop on riceThis tastes so much better than it looks.  The flavours, textures and hot/cold components of the dish pair together so eloquently.

Rice noodle beef soup with rare beef ($9)beef phoApparently their pho stock is cooked for over 15 hours.  It’s rich and flavoursome and perfectly balanced.  The taste does vary slightly from day to day but the quality is always superb.

So what are you waiting for?  You can feed each person for under $10 a head.  It’s quick, it’s clean, and most importantly – it’s good quality food that you, like us, will continue to return for time and time again.

Oh and make sure you grab a Vietnamese iced milk coffee – they’re really amazing…

  1. We ate at this lovely little cafe last night – shared grilled chicken spring rolls and each had a pho with beef, gorgeous and served up in such a friendly style – we will return soon.

    • Glad you enjoyed it Julie.. We love everything that we’ve tried on their menu so far & it’s definitely one of our favourite places to dine. Maybe we’ll see you there one day xx
