Kopan Grill, a family owned & operated restaurant, opened up a few months ago very close to the Camberwell train station. We tried it out last month and were thoroughly impressed that such an amazing Korean & Japanese place is within walking distance from our humble abode. We stopped there for lunch but look forward to returning to try their grilled sushi which is meant to be amazing but is currently only available on their dinner menu.
When we arrived at Kopan Grill, without a booking, it was during their busy lunch hour so we waited around 10 minutes, outside, for our table. The waitress was very apologetic and gave us some complimentary Korean rice tea despite our reassurances that it was fine and that we were more than happy to wait.
Korean-style herb fried chicken (small) ($14) 
The chicken was well seasoned, nice and crispy & beautifully plated with a refreshing salad and some gochujang on the side.
Crispy chicken curry on rice ($9.90) 
This was exactly what I’ve come to expect of Japanese curries. It was flavoursome, mild in its intensity, and silky smooth.
Kimchi pork sizzler – Korean kimchi with sliced pork belly ($15.50) 
This was served with a bowl of rice and absolutely delicious (not to mention a very generous portion size).
Grilled salmon & scallop on sushi rice ($14.50) 
The salmon & sushi were in abundance and cooked to perfection. The sweet sauce and the sushi rice in combination with the seafood was really a sushi-lover’s dream dish. I’ll definitely be back for this. It was phenomenally good and well worth the price.
Yuja cha – Korean citron tea (complimentary) 
This dessert was courtesy of the very friendly & talented chef to polish off our huge meal. It was absolutely wonderful – sweet and zesty but not overly so. The candied peel at the bottom of the glass was absolutely divine and my husband and I both scooped up every last morsel. It’s something that I would order again with some sushi and that gorgeous bowl of salmon & scallop on sushi rice!
With the friendly, warm service and the fabulous food, we can’t help but join all the excited locals in loving Kopan Grill.
