Om Nom in Melbourne CBD – for fancy schmancy desserts in a unique bar setting

om nomSo this happened.  Our son was with my in-laws, our three month-old was her usual perfect self, and my husband was off work.  So we seized the moment and went into the city for lunch.  Afternoon tea followed lunch.. & lo and behold.. afternoon tea led to dinner.  My husband and I felt young, we felt free, we felt spontaneous – a feeling we haven’t felt in such a very long time…!  So we decided to break tradition and have sweets for dinner.

We were fortunate to book Om Nom an hour and a half before our reservation and had an absolutely wonderful time..om nom

We ended up ordering two dessert degustations ($55 each) and amongst the two us sampled all six desserts that were available from their degustation options.  The desserts were mini versions of the actual desserts but it was truly fantastic to be able to sample a little bit of each…  I am sure that if we hadn’t been eating all day we would have required more food, but our rendezvous to Om Nom left us feeling completely and utterly satisfied.

Mont Blanc – meringue, dark chocolate, chestnut, vanilla, blackberry, feuilletinemont blanc

Basil Garden – dark chocolate, vanilla, olive oil, honey, basil, lime, white chocolate & meringuebasil garden

Mango Alfonso – choux pastry, shiso, coconut, kalamanzi, lemongrass, ginger & caramelised white chocolate mango alfonso

Raspberry Field – raspberry, lychee, meringue, rosewaterraspberry field

Tarte Tartin – Granny Smith apple, 5 spice, chantilly, vanilla, lemongrass & gingertarte tartin

Pineapple Verrine – strawberry, rum, pink peppercorn, vanilla, coconut, lemongrass, ginger, caramelised white chocolate, all spicepineapple verrine

What a night and what a beautiful selection of amazing desserts.  For those of you after a more filling meal, they do have The Om Nom Experience which includes savoury dishes as well as the dessert degustation and coffee or tea for $75 per person (minimum 2 guests).  We were in a bit of a rush to reunite with our son and after eating all day prior to our Om Nom visit, weren’t really up for it!

Would I go back?  Most definitely – I’d love to take my amazing mother there for their Sunday High Tea in the near future… xx
